INSURANCE CLAIMS

AI

Stedi gives your agent insurance claims and eligibility through Stedi: run real-time eligibility and claim status checks, search the Payer Network, validate and submit 837P professional claims, and read 277CA acknowledgments and 835 ERAs.

  • Per-user credentials: each call uses the actual user's API key, never a shared bot.
  • Encrypted per-tenant vault: AES-256, resolved at request time, never in LLM context.
  • Scoped before every call: pre-call scope check, 90-day SIEM-exportable audit chain.

CALL ANY TOOL
17 tools for insurance claims in Stedi: check eligibility, coordination of benefits, and claim status, search payers, validate and submit 837P claims, and read 277CA and 835 ERA reports.
stedi_check_claim_status
Check claim status
Send a real-time 276/277 claim status request to a payer through Stedi for a claim the payer has already accepted. Returns the payer's 277 response as JSON: a claims array where each matching claim has claimStatus (status category and codes, payer claim number, charge and paid amounts, dates) and serviceDetails, plus payer, providers, subscriber, errors and the raw X12. Use when a 277CA or 835 ERA has not arrived in the expected time. Use stedi_list_claims or stedi_get_claim_timeline to see what Stedi has already received. Works with production API keys only.
Parameters
Name
Type
Required
Description
providers
array
Required
The billing provider (exactly one) and optionally service providers on the claim. Each entry has providerType (BillingProvider or ServiceProvider), npi, and organizationName or firstName and lastName; tin is sometimes required by the payer. Example: [{"providerType": "BillingProvider", "npi": "1999999984", "organizationName": "Example Clinic"}].
subscriber
object
Required
The subscriber on the claim: memberId, firstName and lastName are required; add dateOfBirth (YYYYMMDD) and gender (M or F) when the subscriber is the patient. Example: {"memberId": "TEST12345", "firstName": "Test", "lastName": "Patient", "dateOfBirth": "19800101"}.
trading_partner_service_id
string
Required
The payer ID the claim was sent to (primary payer ID, Stedi payer ID or alias).
dependent
object
Optional
The patient, when the patient is a dependent on the subscriber's policy: firstName, lastName, dateOfBirth (YYYYMMDD) and gender (M or F). Example: {"firstName": "Test", "lastName": "Child", "dateOfBirth": "20150101"}.
encounter
object
Optional
Identifies the claim. Stedi recommends a date-of-service range (beginningDateOfService and endDateOfService, YYYYMMDD); you can also pass the payer's claim number (tradingPartnerClaimNumber), patientAccountNumber or submittedAmount. Sending too much detail can hide matches. Example: {"beginningDateOfService": "20260101", "endDateOfService": "20260107"}.
trading_partner_name
string
Optional
The payer's name, such as Cigna or Aetna. Optional.

SEE HOW AUTH WORKS
Each user connects their own Stedi API key once, and Scalekit sends it with every call. Credentials stay vaulted, every call is scope checked, and every action is logged.
1
Authorize
Your user connects
Stedi
once. We tie it to their identity and the meetings they approved — no shared bot account, no org-wide access
Who:
user ‘A’
when:
Once per user
access:
Limited to user
2
Store
Their
Stedi
token lives in a vault scoped to them. User A's meetings are never reachable by an agent acting for user B, even on the same connection
vault:
encrypted
scope:
per-user
tokens:
auto-refreshed
3
Resolve
When your agent calls a
Stedi
tool, we fetch the right token server-side. It never touches your agent, never appears in the LLM context, never shows up in your logs
speed:
~40ms
check:
before every call
seen by:
nobody
4
Audit
Every
Stedi
tool call is logged — who triggered it, which meeting was fetched, what came back. 90 days of history, tied to the user who authorized it
history:
90 days
export:
SIEM-ready
logged:
every call

Why Scalekit
Secure your agent's access. Connectors ship in minutes
01.
Shared tokens break per-user analytics
A shared Stedi API key looks fine in a demo. In production every claim submission looks like one service account, and you cannot tell which user triggered it. Scalekit resolves the credential of the actual user who triggered the agent, never a shared bot.
// shared key
audit → bot_service_account

// scalekit
audit → user_abc ✓
02.
Authentication is not authorization
03.
Multi-tenancy is architectural
04.
Stedi today. Ten connectors tomorrow.
“Our agents act across Salesforce, Gong, Google Drive, and more, on behalf of every customer. Scalekit behind the scenes meant we can keep adding tools without ever rebuilding how credentials or tool calling work.”

FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the agent access Stedi as the user or through a shared key?
As the user. Each user connects their own Stedi API key once, and Scalekit sends it with every call. Every eligibility check and claim submission is attributed to that user in your audit trail, not a shared service account.
Where is the Stedi API key stored?
In Scalekit's managed AES-256 token vault, namespaced per tenant. To rotate it, the user reconnects with a new API key. Revocation is a single dashboard action. Credentials never appear in prompts, logs, or LLM context.
Can I limit what the agent does in Stedi?
Yes. Filter by tool name in listScopedTools to expose only what you want, for example the eligibility, claim status, and report tools without stedi_submit_professional_claim, the one tool that sends a claim to a payer. Scalekit also enforces scope checks before every API call.
What happens when a user revokes Stedi access?
The connection is invalidated on the next tool call. Subsequent requests for that user fail closed with a clear error. Other users in the tenant remain unaffected. The event is logged for audit.
Can the agent check a claim before submitting it?
Yes. stedi_validate_professional_claim runs an 837P claim through Stedi's payer checks, edits and mapping without sending it to the payer. stedi_submit_professional_claim then sends it, and stedi_get_claim_timeline tracks its 277CA acknowledgments and ERA payments.
